Why I started cooking
When I first began All Day Plant Based, I was solely focused on producing quality blogs that inform, provide and support. But I began to realise something was missing. In order for me to practically help people in regards to their health and well-being, I need to highlight the plethora of plant-based power-packed dishes that are easy to make and highly adaptable for whatever you’ve got in your kitchen!
Quick Facts About The Foods We Love
Watermelon
The watermelon is one of the most world renowned fruits due to its revitalising, refreshing and rehydrating watery chunks.
But did you know you could eat it’s skin? The rind of watermelon is filled with high concentrations of vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B6, potassium, and zinc!
Cherries
Prunus avium or sweet cherries are the lovable fruits we often eat raw with no cooking required but if you’ve ever bitten into a sour one you may not have realised these are Prunus Cerasus or the sour cherry, these types of cherries are used mostly for baking as they offer a unique tangy flavour to many dishes such as cherry pie and black forest cakes. So make sure you pick up the right cherries!
Tofu
Made from pressed soya beans, tofu is one of the key superfoods for any plant based eater, as it is a complete source of dietary protein, providing all of the essential amino acids needed in your diet. However it’s not all cakes and fairies, there may be potential risks, highly processed soy foods do not carry the same health benefits as minimally processed soy foods such as tofu and tempeh. Soy based sausages, burgers, mince etc contain plenty of additives that make them less healthy even though they are soy!
